Personally, I wish Bill Gates would stick to computers and leave agriculture and the environment alone.

I'm sure that skeeters have a useful purpose, but like fleas, ticks and termites, I'm not opposed to them going extinct.

It's a shame we killed off the passenger pigeon, but I'd support wiping out the above mentioned insects, along with some more I can't think of right now off the top of my skull.

I understand the sentiment but getting rid of mosquitoes would likely have unintended negative consequences. For starters they are an important fish food. There was a time when people tried to eliminate predators to protect deer. Aldo Leopold, the father of modern wildlife management, was in the lead supporting this effort. He reversed course."To keep every cog and wheel is the first rule of intelligent tinkering"

As a whole, I’m kind of on the fence about non natural means (ie poisoning) of controlling predators (coyotes) to protect deer, but in my area where the explosion in the coyote population is encouraged/driven by a feed lot dumping carcasses, something more than shooting and trapping sure seems necessary.:anyone:

Two genetically engineered mosquitoes were set to pounce on a guy asleep in his hammock.

The first said, "Should we eat him here, or carry him down to the creek?"

The second replied, "Let's eat him here. If we carry him back to the creek, the big ones will take him away from us."
