Trucks broke, mechanic suggestions?

So I have a 2015 Silverado with the 5.3 V8. I’m pretty sure one of my active fuel management lifters on cylinder 7 has collapsed, which is apparently a common thing. I’m thinking I’ll just get it fixed the right way and delete the entire system so this doesn’t happen again. Anyone know of a reasonable mechanic in the OKC area that can take care of this? I’m waiting on a call back from a guy, but I’m open to options.

Has anybody had this problem before? How did it go for you? Also, I’m seriously considering just selling the truck after it’s fixed. If I already have to sink thousands of dollars into this thing at 80k miles, I don’t wanna see what happens trying to put another 120-150k miles on it. Anyone have suggestions on a better platform to buy next? I was thinking of another Lexus LX470 or a 2nd gen or newer Cummins. I need a truck bed or roof rack, as well as a capable 4x4 setup. Not a big fan of trucks smaller than 1/2 ton, I actually prefer 3/4 ton trucks.

Cherokee Hills Automotive-Owner is Chris Bilodeau, he is an old family friend and has done quite a bit of work on all of our vehicles (05 3/4 ton Chevy Standard, 2013 Silverado 1/2 ton, 2005 Tahoe etc) and has always been honest i kept having a sensor throw on my 2013 and he was straight up and told me the $500 to replace the damn thing wasn't worth the money and it wouldn't hurt anything to leave it. That was around 80k and that truck served me well until I traded it in at 150k.

My FIL has a truck like yours man and he already had to put a new transmission in it at 105,000 miles.

my buddy had one too and put a transmission in his too at 115,000 miles. Then totaled it last week. Lol

I’ve always had good luck with older chevy’s, didn’t think they went down in quality this much. I just paid it off too.

I know a couple guys who do part time work who would be more than capable of it, and fair. One of them might also buy it as is for the right price, he really enjoys fixing vehicles and telling his wife he plans on selling them.

As for a replacement truck, a 2nd or 3rd Gen Cummins would be great, fantastic actually, but they are selling for very nearly double what they were a year and a half ago. Some unmolested low mileage 2nd Gen 6 speeds are selling for triple... let that sink in. It’s hard to beat an 03-07 GM 1500HD/2500 or 2500HD/3500HD 6.0 for cost of upkeep and longevity. Things will go wrong, they’re flawed and older like anything, but they’re usually cheaper to maintain and generally pretty reliable up past 250k miles. I have an 03 2500 4x4 with a salty 6.0 thats had several thousand in upgrades and preventative maintenance with 111,000 miles that I’d sell ya if you have a penchant for a reliable, daily driver sleeper that can still tow and work effectively. That’s not everybody’s cup of tea though. As for anything Lexus or Toyota, they’re not meant to be tow pigs but they are by far the best designed and most reliable passenger/ light towing vehicles available.

I don’t need to haul a lot of heavy stuff, but I love the power, economy, and reliability of Diesel engines, and I can work on them. The Lexus LX/GX will likely tow everything I need it to. I found a really nice 4x4 2nd gen with a 6 speed down in Dallas for 11k, it would fit the bill perfectly.

If it’s under 200k miles, you’d be in the money. I saw one posted in Tulsa, 96 12v 1 ton dually 5 speed with 78k miles for $18k... I fiddled around, watched it drop to 16,500, nearly got up the nerve to call and offer 15, and then it sold. And I kick myself because auction sites and classic dealers would have that relisted for $35-40 right now. Sometimes I’m just flat out dumb.

My opinion, and I'm agreeing with the above posts, is Cherokee Automotive. Chris, and his Dad, have treated me very well. I highly recommend them. I have my 2 vehicles serviced and repaired there.

You can get a cam in okc where I have got all my cams for the last 30 years.
Willhoites cams.
You will need the 3 bolt cam and you can get a performance grind on it if you are into that.

I had an 04 chevy truck given to me for free. It needed a water pump as it would start leaking after a 2 mile drive.
I could have kept it ,it had a bit over 100,000 miles on it but I hate that new stuff.

I sold it in 4 days just to get than Gm LS stuff out of my yard.

I see lots of failed Roller cams and the LS likes to destroy the main journals on the cams.
Be sure to check the wear on the journals before you just slap in another cam.
