"We" didn't do anything. Maybe you feel guilty, "me" not at all.

"We" as in the United States, not "we" personally.

When the 1979 revolution took place, I hated Iranians, just as I was taught to. With the hostage crisis going on, and me a teenager, I was too stupid to ask questions, and the Irish media damn sure wasn't telling anything more than they needed to.

With a little age, and a little research, it's pretty easy to understand the situation a bit better.

With a modicum of honest research, you would easily find mostly good reviews of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. On the flip side, you will find that the hardline Islamists like those running Iran today have defined bigotry and evil by religious mandate for 1,400 years.

As well, you might find a different story than what liberal coloring books have painted. Here’s a short read from 2009 on Iran ... the good, the bad and the ugly.

And depending on the source, you'll get something else. All of which misses the point.

The United States propped up the shah.

Why? Why shouldn't the Iranians be pissed about that?

The Islamists sure were pissed that we propped up the Shah. I guess if you sympathize with them, you would indeed miss the point.

No, I follow principles, not emotions.

Check out George Washington's farewell address. He gives some pretty sage advice, more "patriots" ought to apply it.

Once again, someone daring to hold a different viewpoint from the main stream jingoistic, traditional point of view gets you labelled as a Lib or, in this case, an Islamic sympathizer. Lol.

Missing the point entirely and waaay off the mark when it comes to describing someone like TK.

One is entitled to have a “different viewpoint” even if it aligns with the Islamists in Iran, Jew hating bigots here in the US of A or the liberal cause du jour from the “Democrat Plantation”. In case you might have missed it, that is what the First Amendment is all about. One is free to “sympathize” and “apologize” for Islamists all they want.

As someone who's BTDTGTTS, my perspective is that we did bad things in history and they're doing bad things now. There is no moral high ground in this situation, except to defend international waters to facilitate the free movement of trade and commerce. The U.S. is not a current threat to international commerce, whereas the theocratic regime of Iran is.

Anything beyond that is interventionism and that always brings problems.
