My understanding is the man in this picture that is being helped ashore is my Uncle Silas. He almost drowned but was rescued by a couple of his squad mates.
I never had the chance to meet him, but was able to meet his wife, my Great Aunt Mary.View attachment 208809

That's an incredible pic. I've seen a similar pic to that one that had more soldiers in it. Primary discussion of the pic was about the tide height. Here's a pic to compare yours to.

The tides indeed were the issue. The picture I posted is one that I found today. The original one that I have is b/w and has more soldiers in it.

Here, but occasionally There.
I used to post a link every year to a picture article done by the Denver Post regarding D-Day, but now one has to register with an e-mail address to view the archived article. Thus, since I refuse to usually register for such things, I didn't post a link to it this year. It had some incredible images.

I've reconsidered and will post the link below.

Thanks much for posting that link. I would have been so scared my legs would not have held me up ! I was in the Navy but never faced anything like that.

Sometimes I lay in bed and think about the movies and scenes of that invasion and think to myself, how can human beings do that to other human beings ? Same thing I think of the things I have scene about the concentration camps.

And unfortunately, I'm getting very afraid we may have blown the county and world that all of those brave people gave their lives to give to the world.

God bless every one of them.

Oh no, you’re mistaken. This is exactly the world they fought to create.

I guess I either don't understand your point, or just disagree with you. My grandfather, who died years ago fought in World War I, and my father and my uncle served in WWII. I'm sure if they saw the state of this country today they would strongly disagree with most of what is going on in this country today. Much as I do, they would think that many people are completely irresponsible, disrespectful, and unpatriotic.

Tell me how you think we have the world that they fought to create ?

I think it goes beyond the "fighting" to create. I think the upbringing that some did with their children led to poor results. I'm of the generation that was raised by those of WWII, the Depression, and the Dust Bowl. While many of those of the "Greatest Generation" did well with raising their kids, not all of them did. Those kids went on to become hippies, do drugs, experience free love, and then many went on to become professors in college and try to indoctrinate the later generations.
