I was at my cabin this weekend and woke up to torrential rain this morning. I think I got about 4” of rain in the first 1 1/2 hours. Not sure how much I got in total.

This first pic is of my rifle range yesterday afternoon, then you can see pics of it this morning. It was a little sketchy for a while because the water made it to my porch and floated off some of my daughter’s shoes. Glad it didn’t make it inside.

And while I was surveying damage, this poor guy came washing down the creek. Fortunately he got his feet under him before he went over the waterfall. He walked up to me shivering and shaking, smelled my hand and then took of. I followed him for a while and he was plenty strong. I think that as long as his mama finds him, he should be fine.

Some of that flat country in that area becomes a roaring river in a heavy downpour. It is pretty crazy. Glad your cabin is okay. You might want to look into making a berm or terrace to help out in the future.

I’ve been thinking about that very thing today.

It’s actually hilly where I am. Problem is, my cabin sits in a lower area. I’m lucky that 2/3 of the creek drops off in a deep ravine so it normally drains pretty fast. Whoever built my cabin should have built it about another 6” above grade.

That third pic looks like someone upstream lost the side of a barn. Glad to hear your cabin escaped the water.

No cabin on the place but a few years ago we had a flood on our salt fork place. Afterwards found several 20 pound propane bottles with purple/green brass valves.
Full of Anhydrous Ammonia, a part of making meth. Evidently someone's lab got flooded out. We opened the valves, and let it all go down wind.
