That’s the first time I ever seen one in person the grandson and I were checking out the yacht with the sunbathers on the deck when my SIL saw the blimp then other passer byes were taking pictures and filming and the girls were all waveing not knowing there was a blimp behind them lol
That was one thing about growing up at the Jersey Shore in the early 1960s. The Navy was still using blimps to patrol the coast for Soviet submarines. Our house had a unique shape as it was originally a restaurant with an attached apartment in the back. One night, a blimp that was having trouble trying to fight a headwind used our house as a landmark to hover over until they could continue on their patrol. I even got to visit NAS Lakehurst on an Armed Forces Day and see the blimps in and out of their hangars.

About 15 years later I enlisted in the Naval Air Reserves at Lakehurst. By then the blimps were long gone and Hangar Number 1 had a simulated aircraft carrier flight and hangar deck built inside it. The aviation boatswain's mate school used it for practical training on aircraft handling.

Years ago -- 1984 -- When Goodyear had a Blimp stationed in Houston, TX -- whenever the aircraft would venture east -- they would spend the night at Lafayette, Louisiana Airport. They would setup a temporary mooring station at southern end of the airport. Late 1980’s went to Los Angeles to visit my wife’s family, saw the Goodyear Blimp operations from the freeway.

Visited one of the U.S. Navy’s Blimp hangers in Tillamook, Oregon -- The Blimp hanger was HUGH !!!!!! -- It had Air Museum written in big bold red letters on the hanger roof. -- thought it was written on the mountain wall in the backdrop. Inside the hanger was massive !!!!
