Is a 4x4 truck, jeep or 4x4 SUV a must for Ok deer hunting?

How likely is a 2-wheel-drive pickup to get stuck (even with limited-slip) while big-game hunting in Ok? This question is especially important for those who may use their vehicle to drive in the field off road (wherever hunting area rules permit this) to recover their downed quarry and might not also use an ATV.

Never been stuck in a 2wd personally, but we hunt wide open wheat fields and crp. That being said, it's less of an ordeal to haul a deer out on a two wheel cart. You can buy them at academy, but if you can weld, putting cheap used mountain bike wheels on a short ladder section is what we do.

A 4x4 has higher maintenance costs than a 2WD in the long run. It costs more to purchase new or used and may use more fuel. A 4x4 also may have higher resale value and seems more 4x4 trucks are stocked by dealers than 2WD's these days. I have to say it's prudent to go for a 4x4 especially if you buy a new, high-dollar and/or later-model truck. I would go for one with an extended cab or double cab. They handle much better on the highway with a longer wheelbase. May come in handy when Ok and Tx gets that rare Deep Freeze too. The question now is whether (due to wet weather, maybe) to put a winch on that 4x4.

How well might even a wheelbarrow work to haul out a smaller deer like a doe? Can one man load a deer like this into an ordinary contractor wheelbarrow?
