I have the following for sale or straight trade for either .357 Federal/Remington/Winchester 158 grain loaded ammo or factory Federal/Remington/Winchester .45 Colt.
Here's what's in the picture:
62 rounds - 240 coated swc . 44 Magnum handloads (10.2/hp-38)
18 rounds - 240 JSP Winchester...
.30-30 Remington managed recoil rounds should do the trick. My daughter used them to kill her last buck. I think she was around 14 at the time. Very mild recoil.
Any of these 3. All have been used as carry guns as EDC from time to time. Glock 41, Ruger Blackhawk, or Glock 20. Heck, I’ve even carried the Glock 40 on occasion. Nothing really far out, but not necessarily the norm either.
I like the idea of the top break design. I wish S&W would innovate and bring back an auto eject top break DA/SA like they had long ago. Maybe a 19/66 frame.
As promised, the .357 mag results. Same test medium, 158 Remington jhp. 4” model 66 for the delivery method. Penetration was on par with the 10mm, maybe a touch more. The board exit hole was about the same size as well, probably due to the jhp design.
I’ll probably take at least one of the boyfriends to the range before then, hopefully both, but only one lives close enough as it stands. I’m pretty sure that a rifle or shotgun in the national parks is a bad idea, but I could be wrong. I’m not sure what constitutes legal carry in one for sure...
Kind of like that idea. I’d wager that 2 legged animals are more dangerous than the other kind. Makes sense to have a 00 shell in the chamber for either. If that doesn’t end it, then slugs it is.
5 minimum, possibly 8 max persons going. So, myself, my wife, 2 teen girls, possibly my oldest and her husband and maybe 2 teen boyfriends. Not saying I’m the best there is, but of the bunch it will fall to me for any protection from bears or humans. As far as I know ALL have fired a gun before...
I looked at MidwayUSA. I *think* they showed the 220 grain out of stock. Anyway, I went to Underwood’s site, signed up for the veterans discount and got 10% off. I didn’t get the 220 from them though, just the 200 grn. Total cost plus shipping was $36 ish. If I don’t think the 200’s will work...
Last picture of the inscription on the plate, loaded .45 Colt, loaded 10mm, test guns and recovered bullets. The 10mm weight about 185 grains, the .45 Colt was 246 grains, and the .45 ACP I didn't bother to weigh since it smooshed out on the cardboard behind the plate. So far, the 45 was the...
Next was my handloaded 45 Colt. 255 grn LSWC over 6.0 grns of HP-38. Same target set up. Hole on the left was the particle board exit. Test gun was my Ruger Blackhawk 4 5/8".
First up was 10mm handloads fired from my Glock 20. It consists of 180 fmj over 8.4 grns of Longshot. It honestly gets over 1200 fps. Fairly mild to shoot. Picture results below.
So, with all the youtube testing that I have been watching on this subject (because I am obsessesed with this kind of stuff) I decided to do my own redneck-ery test. Attached are pictures of the set up:
1 Dollar General teacup plate covered by a cowhide piece of leather
Approx. 30 used IDPA...
