I impale a full size marshmallow on the trigger, pushing it as far onto the trigger as possible. This helps in a few ways:
It shrinks the area where bait can be pulled up from the bottom.
It keeps some moisture off the bait.
The animals tend to pull at the marshmallow to get to the dog / cat...
Well, they can stick to hunting their state. It will make rifle season interesting for some as it'll be a very late gun season compared to this past season. As I'm primarily a bow hunter, I'm good with it.
Guess i sensed what was going to happen today and took a pic of the sunrise lol. Some birds around but they were decoy shy and flared at calls. I put my calls away pretty quick but a group nearby didn't.
I went 1/2 dumb Sunday and ended up with 4 birds. Wound up in the worst spot possible with the wind and ice, but still enjoyed it. Decided to leave a bit early as the wind was picking up and I'm not trying to be a statistic. Had to bust ice off the motor mount area to free up the steering as we...
With bucks not cooperating, i finally went duck hunting. Took two buddies that are new to it. I haven't been to the area since the summer, so i relied on past experience to pick a spot. We ended up knocking 5 down, retrieved 4. Of the other two, one made it to the middle of the lake and then...
Yeah, i broke my own rule on it too but.... the non-resident does only come in during the evening, so they forced my hand. I made sure there was no tracking needed due to shot placement and had her in the cooler with the carcass buried by 8pm. Not terrible. 😏
@Okie4570 looks like a carolina wren. They spend a lot of time in brush piles and are super curious.
With the weather finally cooling off, the doe herd has increased significantly as family groups start to mingle. Christmas night was the first time 4 groups all showed up to the backyard plot...
I'm looking for 2x thunder tickets for sometime in the next month or so, to take my son to his first game. Eyeing something in the 100-200 levels so he's a bit closer to the action. Thanks!
Man, there's a lot of success posted lately! Congrats to everyone on their harvests!
Things have been a bit slow here with a new buck here and there, but the regular nursery bucks have returned. I'm starting to wonder if i have a bully that's keeping the bigger deer out. I finally took a doe...
Thunderbird - they may be full, that's what I've heard
Nowakowski - harrah under the grain silo where 23rd and Harrah road intersect.
Terry's taxidermy - reno and council?
Those are the only ones i know of in the metro. There's a place in Guthrie too.
@Okie4570 without a doubt. I've hunted every day since the 8th and the weather has moved most deer activity nocturnal (along with the dogs earlier in my time off). Even camera activity has seemed low. I usually have 3-4 mature bucks on camera this time of year. This year is a goose egg. Nothing...
I 100% believe that. Several folks I've talked to have remarked on this year being "off" for them too. Most rutting action was at night for me, with only little bucks visible in daylight. It's been a rough season so far with only 1 mature buck showing up on two properties all season...
