Always cool to see the different locations across this great state.
I drew the 7 day controlled hunt for whitetail at Sandy Sanders a couple years ago, down near Mangum. I saw more mule deer in those draws and canyons in those 7 days than I saw whitetail.
1970's Remington 788 .308, that rifle is so accurate it is ridiculous. It has stacked up the deer over the years. Its ugly and was cheap but I will never get rid of it.
For non-cell cams buy Bushnell, or Browning like Retrieverman said, I have 5 or 6 Brownings and they have been great. I love all 8 of my Bushnell cameras, they just work night and day and are easy on batteries. I have never owned a good Moultrie and run like hell away from Wild Game...
Congrats on a great buck retrieverman! 500 mile drive from East Texas, and you always get it done. You definitely are madder at deer than I am these days. Lol. Put up blinds and stands today, finally, work has been killing me, pulled a card with almost 700 pictures on it, all dinks and does/fawns
Cool looking bucks Meat, the one on the left might turn into a stud buck in a year, meaning I might shoot him on Oct 1, the one looking at the cam needs a year or two for sure in my opinion, unless one of your kids can get on him.
Thank you Toothpick and MG, it's been tough. He was not only my brother but my best friend and hunting and fishing partner. He is and will be deeply missed.
To the original poster:
I have two places, one West of Guthrie one East, family owns the west, the East is the better spot for hunting but it was just a handshake deal between me and a friend. He loved fishing my pond at the West place and he never hunted. He passed away from pancreatic cancer...
I bought a table at the Mangum round up made of an ancient mesquite wood cabin door and an old oxen/cattle yolk, its bad ass and has a prominent place in our living room.
Bassin that is awesome! Huge snake! I love snakes of all shapes and sizes poisonous ones included! They are amazing creatures....
We don't kill them at my farms or around my 3 acres at home...they always get a pass. I have been to almost all the rattlesnake ROUND UPS, I would say Mangum is...
Pretty good sized hole! A guy that hunts on me shot a pretty nice 10 in 2019 with a 7 Mag at 35 yards, knocked the buck down, then the deer jumped up and ran off... 1 spot of blood and tissue. That buck showed back up on camera 2 months later, you could see where the shot hit him, right...
I bought the same 4 pack of Simmons cameras for $80 from Tractor Supply last year for my 12 year old to set up in the woods around the house and at his grandmas 5 acres. They take decent pictures and the battery life is not bad. For the price they are serviceable cams, not great night pics but...
