Just noticed this WTB since I don't cruise through OSA very often. I have one if you're still looking, picked it up from CMP in 2004 with the thought of getting into smallbore matches but that didn't happen. Other than a handful of informal range trips it's been a safe queen ever since.
20ga pickings are pretty thin but recently things seem to have improved some. I've been seeing 20ga birdshot at least semi-regularly at the Edmond Academy and Cabela's. Haven't come across any in case quantities though.
Very quickly, since I have to blast off for son's Scout meeting:
A handgun will drop off the CA "roster" for two main reasons:
1) The manufacturer stops paying the annual "fee" (aka the Extortion tax) required to keep the item on the roster. It's been a while since I looked at this, but I...
Thanks for putting this together! And a big thanks for everyone's generosity, I got some trigger time on a bunch of slick rifles and pistols. A gill gun, a couple of tack-driving bolt rifles, a Glock 44, an actual 1940 (?) Luger pistol, 22Mag NAA micro revolver, and several more that my...
I grabbed one of those Federal Black Friday "Black Packs" of 22 Mag so there should be ample opportunities for making fireballs and rattling people's fillings loose. These things do have a reputation for being finicky though -- and in fact mine generally suffers some kind of stoppage about once...
The current waiting period for long guns and hand guns in CA is the same at ten days (which is actually down from a 15 day wait until around 2005-ish).
I thought the FOID was an Illinois thing. CA doesn't require a permit to own a gun, though I'm sure the thought has crossed a few minds in the...
Clearly ATF doesn't want to fix it. I e-filed two Form 4's within minutes of each other (a few years ago back when that was an option), but one ended up being approved two weeks before the other... and each with a different examiner's stamp. More recently I had two paper F4s in the system at...
My only experience building a BP firearm is with a Pedersoli "Kentucky" pistol kit. As somebody mentioned above, expect to invest a lot of time in it. As far as I know, T/C isn't making any of their traditional looking muzzle-loaders any more, so unless you can find an unmolested example on...
So what happens to those of us with a suppressor being held at SSP South in NFA purgatory waiting for the wily and elusive tax stamp to finally appear? Do they automatically get transferred up to SSP North?
If I have to start over I will be forced to assume the fetal position.
I keep Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel +P 135gr in my LCR.
Not sure if this really proves anything, but prior to settling on it I tried a bunch of different loadings over my chronograph. One thing that I found interesting is that of 6 loadings, the Speer was the ONLY one to reach its advertised...
Once you get the cylinder to swing out, the model number followed by the engineering change number can be seen stamped on the frame in the crane recess. For instance, mine says "10-5" which is a Model 10, change #5.
Getting it open is the real trick. That link has some ideas from people who are far savvier than I. Once it's open it's a simple matter to screw the ejector rod back into place, as long as you remember that it's threaded backwards (rightie/tightie doesn't operate in S&W-land). I'm not aware...
Older S&W revolvers are notorious for having their ejector rods backing out under recoil, preventing the cylinder from releasing and eventually preventing it from rotating. Allegedly the newer ones don't suffer from this, at least not as badly. I don't think the problem is model-specific...
Suppressor use was exactly why I got mine. I picked up the Alpha Wolf because it was made in the US while the cheaper LWD barrel wasn't. I see that isn't the case any more, they're all US made.
As far as I can tell, the Alphas are available in more chamberings, are fluted, and claim to have a...
If you're ok with ordering online you could start by looking at Lone Wolf:
Their budget (LWD) line: https://www.lonewolfdist.com/Products.aspx?CAT=8142
Next step up (AlphaWolf): https://www.lonewolfdist.com/Products.aspx?CAT=8070
I picked up one of their AlphaWolf barrels threaded barrels...
Between "Cartridges of the World" and the internet, my initial guess (absent other measurements) is 6.5x50 Japanese (aka 6.5x50 Arisaka). CotW gives these dimensions:
.263" bullet diameter
.293" neck diameter
.425" shoulder diameter
.455" base diameter
.471" rim diameter
.045" rim thickness...
