I would tend to agree, especially for a non enthusiast. .32 is a great caliber for a small revolver but, unfortunately, ammo isn’t as readily available in local stores. I handload and cast for it so that is largely immaterial to me. But is something to consider, for sure.

As far as finding one. You just have to keep checking your lgs, gun.deals and/or gunengine. They are in short supply but come up occasionally. Anything under $600 is a decent deal these days.
100 grain 32 long wadcutters hit to the sights on my LCR and have very little recoil. They are as available as anything these days. Just 2-3 times the price they were. Very economical round to reload though. Same availability issues apply.
Easiest way to tell what you are looking at is with the sku number. Usually a 5 or 6 digit number starting with a 1.
Is it a 2.0 model? I believe they named some of the older models as you described. Or you could be right and they are just poor descriptions. That is why I always find the sku...
Just my 2 cents. Of the calibers listed, I would start with 38 special. It is possibly the easiest caliber to load for and a revolver is a more forgiving of a platform. Same goes for bolt actions. There I would start with .223.
