Thanks Merc. Good article. Looks like the 45 ACP would be a decent defense load, but I am still curious how it would perform through heavy jackets, ect... in the winter time.
I have been in violent encounters both lethal and non-lethal. Training in the most realistic way you can will help you when you need to react instinctively. You WILL react in a similar manner to the way you train under very high stress situations.
A great read for those who have or have not...
Has anyone shot the Civil Defense Ammo by Liberty Ammunition?
They make very light grained ammunition with very high velocities (40 S&W is 60 grains @2000fps). I assume it is to lighten the load in your carry pistol and not have unintentional hits due to over-penetration, but I wanted to know...
There are many many good choices, but if you have access to a range in your area that will let you rent a few and actually shoot them then she can choose for herself.
Don't be surprised if she can shoot a bigger caliber than expected. It is all about comfort and what she will be confident...
I make a very compact style hybrid holster that is extremely comfortable to wear thanks to the super soft backing. Check out the website CrossroadHolsters.com and PM me if you have any questions/requests.
Great read. I especially agree with #4 (below). I have encountered so many people who spend $500+ on their carry gun but then buy the cheapest holster they can get their hands on. Inevitably, after a short time of carrying on a regular basis they end up breaking or hating that cheap holster and...
I have been carrying a Springfield XD-S in 45ACP with one of my Crossroad Holsters and it is so comfortable I literally have checked to make sure it was still there. The XD-S is fairly accurate for what it is, but like most single stacks is lacking in the capacity department. Pros are that it is...
4:00 always seemed to fit me best. I can conceal a large enough gun to do the job, it doesn't impede normal movement, and I just never did get used to the idea of appendix carry. I know a lot of people love carrying this way (and I'm all for it if that's how you like to carry) but I couldn't...
Proof positive is Pete Shepley, founder of PSE archery, shooting their new bow at 370 fps (fastest bow on the market) through a chronograph at less than 3 yards. Arrows do not need 10 yards to generate top speed.
I have a holster company and that was one of the questions I addressed when coming up with the design. I wanted a holster that the user could take on and off for situations just like these and not have to undo their pants to do it.
