A little black powder redemption this evening. Same birds and same tree as Monday, just 90 minutes earlier. Sit down and called a little with no response. No wind, buffalo gnats plentiful. Two semis met each other on the road and blasted a horn, and gobbling immediately to my right. Hit the slate again and they gobbled every 10 seconds for the next five minutes until trigger time. Once they came up out of the creek into the wheat, they spotted the decoy, fanned and here they came. All three stopped at 10y, and I waited for them to separate and boom! Dropped like hit with the hammer of Thor this time. 22lbs, 9.5" beard, 7/8" spurs.

Be after them with my daughter behind the trigger in the morning.

Nice bird and shotgun!!!

I'm heading up in the morning, so I'll more than likely be calling on the river by late afternoon. I'm plan to hunt with my crossbow but am bring my shotgun just in case.

Good luck tomorrow!

Awesome Okie! Vengeance is sweet! Congrats on the bird and good luck to the little lady. You ready to come tackle an eastern? They'll try your wits!

Ready for the birds..........not the terrain :)

Awesome! I'm assuming you worked out some of the patterning issues?

Worked them out to where I'm confident out to about 15y max.............still doesn't pattern with the bigger shot like I want it to. More testing and tinkering needed......part of the fun :)

I've got a bunch of wads that I ordered to use for steel shot, going to try them with the lead.

There's an 11yo asleep there somewhere :) Seen a dozen hens, never heard or saw any toms this morning. Beautiful out all the same.
