If the shot is a little high, that tends to happen.
My archery buck did exactly the same. No blood trail.

I should have taken more time and looked at the bucks rack more. It was a decent 8, but it's the most busted up rack I've seen. He's lost 1 brow tine and both main beams. That said, i needed the meat and it's been 5 years since I've shot a buck, for some reason it was the most nerves I've felt on anything I've ever shot.
