He was using his new Savage Axis .243, we bought it on Wednesday and got it sighted in Friday and then hunted with it the weekend. He really was pumped about getting his own rifle, we had planned on using one of his older brothers but we were able to do some swapping around and get the funds for his rifle in time.
I was really impressed with the little Axis, for a $300 gun it really is accurate. He was able to put shots in the same hole at 50 yrds, at first i thought he missed with his second and third shots, but then realized they were hitting same hole. Now out at 100 he wasn't as steady but it still was really consistent.
FYI - I finished my elk hunt at Wichita Mountains yesterday. I posted the story under a thread about Govt Shutdown and Elk Hunts. Take a look. I was able to load a few photos also.
