I bought a box of Remington 25-06 100 gr ammo. About 10 of the box misfired. When looking a the shell to figure out what was wrong I discovered that the primers were not fully seated. The firing pin in my rifle just barely touched the shells. Deep enough to leave a pin mark. Have any of the rest of you experienced this?

Could you post a picture of the ones that have the pin marks on the primers? If a primer is not seated deep enough there should have been a heavy pin mark on each one that was not seated correctly. I know you said that this was from a new box of Remington Ammo, but have you had any problems with other brands?

If the primer not seated deep enough, then you should be able to feel it sticking up out of the primer pocket. Seated too deep, which is hard to do, the firing pin may not reach it. I would think the problem would be with your rifle from what you've described above.

Yes possibly a dirty/gummed up firing pin spring.

It's even more frustrating when you have an elk at 300 and your rifle goes click instead of bang b/c of a frozen or gummed up firing pin. You don't need a heavy grease, especially when hunting in especially cold conditions.

You might check your firing pin assembly to make sure it's clean and lightly lubed. You can also replace the fp spring with a stronger aftermarket spring.

-23* will gel things up, but you made good on it, about an hour later.
