I shoot the Nosler Partition in the 180 gr for elk launched out of a .30/338 mag. I think they are the bomb, I have killed 6 bulls and 2 cows with them. In an ought-6 I would think hard about the 165 gr Partition in order to get a little more speed than the 180 gr. I might look at the Barnes all copper with ballistic tip. My opinion is that you need to hit them with as much mass as possible, I would not use 150 gr on elk. My :twocents: You can kill an elk with a smaller caliber and smaller bullet with a perfect shot at an animal standing still, no wind, 40 yds away in the open.....but that doesn't happen often. I want a bullet that will take the animal quickly even if I make a less than perfect shot. Stuff happens in the field. I shoot deer and kill them quickly with my ol '06 with 150 gr Ballistic tips. I shot an antelope at 225 yds with that bullet in the .30/338 and the bullet expanded very violently on impact, blew a 4 in entrance hole in the lil feller. Ballistic tip was designed for a lot less speed than I was pushing it. Good luck.
