Ordered a couple 35 foot I-beams (W10-33's) for a project in a few weeks. Got them off the truck with a forklift and put them on some steel plates with casters. Me and three other guys put straps around both beams and the plate casters. We then rolled them into our lab about 200 yards from the door. They kind of blocked a stair entrance for the USDA above us. So we made a hole to move it forward. All four of us start again, I'm on the right side close to the middle everyone else is on the left spread out. After two feet there is a small lip at the back plate caster, so we back up and hit it a bit faster. The back caster popped to the left and snapped the strap. This flipped the beams (they were sitting in each other) my direction. The front caster strap also broke. I jumped out of the way and felt my hand go numb. Due to the noise and vibration of the beams hitting the floor I thought my hand just took the brunt of the vibration and dead handed me. I checked to see if everyone was ok. I was the only one on the right side and it wasn't on top of me, they were only four inches off the ground on the plate casters before they fell. I then see blood dripping, I look at my left hand and see my pinkie is just mangled and obviously bleeding. Co-worker walks up and asks if i think its broken...yeah...Then I see my ring finger and about pass out. I said, "that one is broken" (I can see the bone), "who wants to give me a ride to the ER." 18cc shot of numbing stuff, tetanus shot, some shot in my bum cheek, and 7 pins later..I'm in severe pain at the house with the wife today. Would have went to work but my boss said he doesn't want to see me for at least a week.
