In that case it was money well spent.

This is why I'm glad I have a friend who is a plumber. I had an under slab leak a while back and was expecting horrific costs. Luckily I talked to my friend and it ended up costing me $200 and a case of beer and me doing all of the infill work after he fixed the problem. Money well spent I say.

I plumbed our entire house and can tell you, smart move on the pex.

When building an addition onto our house (Sun room, laundry room, and another bathroom), I called several plumbers to see what they would charge me just to do a stub out, before concrete was laid. They quoted me $2500. I decided to to it myself, it took me one full day and around $200 in parts.

I have to take the time to give a shout out for American Leak Detection in Tulsa. I had a slab leak in my old home--a tree root clogged the drain in the hall bathroom. My homeowners insurance agent suggested them to me as a company to consider. I had had another company out twice for similar issues and had a $400-500 bill each time. When American Leak Detection came in, the first thing the noticed was that the house didn't have a cleanout in the drain line. They installed one at no extra cost (at least to me!) They then found and fixed the leak and even waived the deductible as I indicated I would redo the floor myself. That was in 2013 and I didn't have any problems the rest of the time I lived in the house.

I'm always happy when I have enough "mad money" on hand to cover unexpected expenses.

Had a cold water line break in late Feb/early March. Leak detection was wrong. So the slab was opened up in two spots. That fix was 1k. My slab leak on hot water, replaced all hot water lines up and over, that was one day, and 3 plumbers and 3k a 5-6 years ago. Have much better hot water pressure than cold :D
