45 Colt ammo??

Anyone have a good source for 45 Colt ammo? I bought my FIL a Judge. He's been wanting one for a year now. Anyway, I've looked at most of the local places and haven't found any. I just bought a couple of boxes from Cabelas. CCI Blazer 200 gr JHP's for $39 per box, $45 once you include shipping. That is a bit more than we were wanting to pay. I'd like to get him some plinking rounds, like Cowboy action loads but I can't even find those anywhere.

when bass pro has the winchester cowboy loads they are around $32. not to bad i guess. gonna set the press up this afternoon for some 45LC.

You'll go broke buying 45LC factory ammo if you do much shooting. The reloading components for it are not too bad to find and there are plenty of recipes for that round. I'm not setup for bigtime reloading but a simple single stage press and some dies will get you off and running.

As for reloading, I guess you guys are right. Even the "cheap" prices for 45LC seems to be really expensive compared to 9mm or 40 S&W. Thanks for the leads on the other suppliers, though.

The cheapest 45 Colt ammo I see on ammoengine.com is .74\round. That's insane.

I bought two boxes from cabella's of the Hornady leverevolution made for the Judge. With the shipping it was pricey, but I wanted premium SD ammo in it when its in the nightstand.

There is a guy out of Texas who comes to the local shows. I have bought 38 super self defense, and 45LC self defense, these are not reloads. I will buy his over factory any day. I can't remember the cost of the 38 super. The 45LC is $35 for a box of 50 8.8gr. Uniq 875fps 250gr. XTP these are hollow points. His number is 817-228-7661. Hope this is helpful. BTW. I don't know what all that stuff means LOL! but that what it says on the box.

It means the ammo is loaded using 8.8 grains of Unique brand powder with 250 grain XTP hollow point bullets and they have been chonographed at 875 feet per second.
