.458 socom vs .300 blackout ..

ya I'm late, found out about .300 blackout and was all hot to build an upper .. then found out about .458 socom and our very own Tony Rumore's involvement in development of .458 socom.

now that Tromix is offering .458 socom barrels/parts, sure have been leaning towards .458 socom. then .300 blackout is still fairly close to .223 in terms of firepower, so there would be some overlap. so leaning toward .458 socom, what am I missing?

Other than brass being hard to find, the SOCOM is fun to shoot. These two cartridges are world's apart... what would their intended use be?

just to have fun with, kill a deer, pigs and/or the usual self defense needs .. truth be known I've already got more than enough firepower to meet those needs. so the have a blast factor is really the main reason for wanting ... it's certainly not to fill a need.

I don't know much about the .458 but I have a .300 I built for hogs and fun. The .300 was designed for short barrels and to be shot suppressed. I have an 8" barrel and I'm about to submit my paperwork for a suppressor. Another cool thing about .300 is the range of bullets you can shoot. Anywhere from 110g through 220g which gives you a lot of variety.

.300 brass is starting to become easier to find and you can always make it from 5.56 brass.

.458 socom gives you 250 through 600 grain. How's that for variety?
