I'm not going to armchair this one, but there is a lesson in this for anyone that carries a gun. When in a very tense situation, the first very loud sound; in this case the non lethal round going off; starts a whole bad decision chain of events. This is the "bang! oh sh*t someone is shooting, I better be shooting too". The thought process is hey who shot? It could be the suspect/ guy I'm pointing my gun at! If someone thought he needed shooting I better shoot too! This has happened many times through our history. Happens in the military, happens to law enforcement, and personal self defence. Case in point was in New York city. Police were holding a suspect on his porch at gun point. He was in his underwear and had his hands up( yes he was an absolute violent dirt bag). Suddenly there a was a loud bang in the alley by the house, latter determined to be a trash truck dropping a dumpster. The police shot the suspect 56 times, he was unarmed. There were 7 officers involved and all of them said.... well my partner shot so I knew the bad guy had done something that needed shooting. I would say this happened here as well.
