I went in there the other day looking at scopes again. looking at the 6-24x50 oculus http://www.basspro.com/Oculus-Rifle-Scope/product/12050105124412/ And looking at the Pursuit X1 6-24x44 http://www.basspro.com/Pursuit-X1-Rifle-Scope/product/12050105122510/ Which i currently have on my .308 And looking at the vortex viper 6-24x50 http://www.basspro.com/Vortex-Viper-PST-Rifle-Scope/product/1108301803859/ at over 900 bucks for that one. The Oculus scope seemed an itty bit brighter than the cheaper Pursuit but had purple fringing around the edges and the thin crosshairs would disappear in the grass.. I looked at the farthest area in the store on the max power of all 3 scopes and moved the scope into different areas of the store to see if the crosshairs could be seen in grass and deer hair. The eye relief seemed easiest to acquire with the Vortex and the PursuitX1.. and only a little worse with the Oculus...Seemed to have about 1/2" of leeway with the Oculus as to where you get a full sight picture No blackening edges.. and the Pursuit and Vortex gave about 3/4 to 1" ,, that makes sighting easier and quicker. At least for me. The viper for the price does not justify a buy in my book based on clarity as it seemed about exactly the same as the Oculus...and just barely better than the Pursuit. I am happy as a lark with my Pursuit.. I just wanted to see if $900+ would be 8x better and it is not. Now i can't give reviews on performance of the Oculus or the Viper in the field but i bet if either one failed to give you what you want Bass Pro would probably give you a refund. Something you can do with a little time is step into there and look through those scopes and see what you think. The cross hairs on the Viper were HUGE the Pursuit X1 was just a little thicker than the Oculus, just enough to keep from washing out in the grasses. Such a nice day today. Have fun.
