My only negligent discharge..My dad and I had gone hunting and were staying in a motel. I had a Winchester 30/30 lever action. I pulled the lever and counted out what I thought was the correct number of bullets and pulled the trigger. Nothing but ringing in my ears. The lead went under the carpet and traveled between the carpet and concrete for about 3 feet before it came to the closet. Tore out a 2 foot hole in the particle board then stopped at a concrete lip.

There was particle board pieces all over the bathroom and closet. We cleaned everything up and put the trash can in front of the hole.

I was 14 years old at the time, thank goodness I was pointing the gun down.

When I was about 16 a buddy invited me to quail hunt on his folks land. The hunting wasn't any good, so we headed over to the junk pile to burn up some shells. We took turns throwing junk for the other to shoot. He picked up a can of spray paint, threw it up, and shot it himself. It turned out to be full and paint got all over my shotgun. I was so pissed off, i took my shirt off and while using it to remove the paint, I hooked the trigger and put a 12ga heavy dove load in the dirt about a foot from him. He took it pretty well.

My two favorite one,s for which I was present. First was a Glock 26 and "sympathetic hand motion" N.D. ( neglegent discharge ) Second was a .308 Steyer Scout of Col. Jeff Cooper's in the Palace Station Casino Las Vegas.

1. Guy I used to work with was showing how fast he could draw his Glock from any position. He was laying on the bed and as he jumped up and grabed his Glock, he also knocked his glass of water off the nightstand. Now he WAS mighty fast, cause he made a mad grab for the glass, and actually caught it! As his hand closed around the glass, his right hand also "grabbed" his Glock....KABOOOOM, in the Radison Hotel down town La Paz Bolivia. Damn Hotel was built out of what I would call Adobe, and the bullet was contained in the wall of the room.

2. Col Cooper was showing off his personal Steyr Scout, to some real top notch people, and he had cleared the magazine IN the gun, but as some of you might know there is a spare magazine in the butt stock. That was loaded with 168gr Federal Match ammo. A well known instructor from the North West was handling the rifle and listening to Cooper pontificate on the Steyr, he changed mags by feel as he listened, He remarked on how "user friendly" the rifle was and Cooper suggested he try the trigger!.......KABOOOOOOOB. The bullet went out the door of the confrence room, right through the line for the Buffet...hitting NO-ONE!!! went into the mens restroom, through 3 dividers and destroyed 2 urinals. The bullet lodged into the copper dwv pipe behind the last urinal. Who says 308 doesn't penetrat!!!

And yes have had one of my own. I was working on a 1911 doing a trigger job. I also had an almost identical gun on me. I took mine off and went to the restroom, came back and picked up what I thought My pistol and holstered it, I picked up the one I was working on and tried the trigger....Right into the tool box on the bench, where it was contained!

B.T.W the one I thought I was working on had a nice trigger........After that I always check and check again when I dry fire!!!

Let's see, when I was 14 or so I was hunting with some friends and was telling a story about another hunt and pulled the trigger. I shot a .22 slug between my boots.

I worked with a guy who was out shooting with a friend one day. They had several rifles on a truck tailgate. He picked up his friends Ruger stainless No. 1 in 25-06. He put one of his .308s in it and pulled the trigger. The .308 bullet was swaged down to .25 cal and went down the barrel. The fore arm of the rifle was split and the action was stretched ruining it. He bought the guy a new rifle. :cry11:
And another time the same guy left his ramrod in the muzzle of the .54 Hawken. When he pulled the trigger it knocked him flat on his back. He got up and looked around trying to figure out what happened. The rifle was okay, his shoulder hurt like hell. Then they discovered the missing ramrod, which they never found in the pasture behind the target. His buddy standing near him heard a strange sound when the rifle fired, that ramrod made a "zing" as it went down range.
He asked me several times to go shooting with him. I was always busy doing something. The guy was just too careless for me.:hellno:

I also know a guy who at age 13 tried to take his loaded .38 spl from a careless friend. (Why a 13 year old was carrying a pistol I don't know). The pistol went off and the slug went up the side of his head causing permanent brain damage. He functions quite well mentally but one side of his body is like that of a stroke victim.

A close friend at age 16 wiped down an "unloaded" shotgun after a morning of duck hunting. He was setting on the back porch with the gun butt on the floor and the barrel near his head pointing at the ceiling. The pump was slid up and down while removing the moisture which loaded a round in the chamber. His left index finger was in the barrel spinning the gun around when his other wiped the trigger. He lost half his left index finger and got a nice scar in his ear lobe from pieces of the barrel that blew at the muzzle.

Last one. A high school buddy's uncle spent most of his life in a nursing home after a hunting partner dropped a loaded .30-06 in the back of the station wagon he was in, behind the wheel. The bullet went from the back of the wagon thru 2 seats and into his back, came out his stomach. It paralized him from the waist down and destroyed most of his digestive system. :nolike:
The same friends step-son shot the other step-son thru his calf with a .40 Glock while showing it off to some girls. Duh? I bet they were inpressed! Not!

Be careful out there!

Standing by my truck with the door open unloading my win 30-30. Another hunter drove past on the road behind me; I looked around and "boom!!" a new air vent in the floor of my truck. It hit nothing critical and I often wondered what the guy driving by thought.

same as "mkivbb". I was clearing my xd and had a round in the chamber. Now I have a new divot in my garage floor.

Follow the rules and you can goof up and still not hurt anyone. Safe Direction at all times.

Former Good Friend of mine in Jenks summer of 2001.
He bought him self a Glock .40 and was training to be a reserve officer with the Jenks PD.
One night he and his Girlfriend were drunk playing Cops and robbers in the house.. Drunk with loaded weapons.
at somepoint she smartened up and threw her gun on the couch. He then dropped the mag from his gun and tossed it to her. she then pointed it at him point blank and said "I got you" BANG! shot him in the face. the bulet took out his upper row of teeth and lodged in his neck.

She freaks out and panics. saying " what do i do?" he gets up spits out some teeth and says "911"

she cant find the phone. so my friend pages the cordless phone and walkes around till he finds it.

he never loss consciousness and was out of the hospital in 3 days.
With a new dental partial and a lisp you'd never know.

what an idiot..

and no Jenks PD didn't want him as an officer after that.

I worked at local gun range while I was going to college. This was about the time that trigger guard lasers had become popular. People would mount these cheap laser on their smooth, rounded trigger guards. I had a customer who had mounted a laser on his Browning Hi-Power. The first round he fired was OK. He was so intent of watching the laser on the target, he didn't notice that the pistol was now pointing at the ceiling and the laser had moved on the trigger guard. He put 3 rounds into the ceiling before I could stop him.
