My wife and I adopted 2 kids from DHS last year. Looks like we may be doing it again this year too. We had no out of pocket expenses except our initial medical exam/physical, which was 2 $35.00 copays. They gave us a list of Attorneys that would work for only the amount that DHS will pay. We didn't have any issues and everything went great. I could see having issues with the bureaucracy. The case workers make all the difference. Some are great and some are hot garbage. We got lucky, or blessed. For those that don't know, adopting from DHS is very low cost or free if things go right and you don't need to obtain your own attorney. There is no way that I could come up with $20,000 or more per kid to adopt. My wife and I now have 2 great kids and 2 more in our custody. We couldn't be happier. Contact DHS if your interested and they can send you a video about the process. It's long and there are many hoops to jump through, but for some it's a great way to go. There are thousands of kids in OK up for adoption. If you feel called to adopt from another country or have your heart set on it go for it, just don't overlook the many great kids right here in OK that could use a good home and family.
