Great! So you get a concussion with subdural hematoma with no external sign of injury. "Oh, I'm fine, I just need to take a nap." dead. Also, what's the trigger on these? I can just see some kid doing an ollie or stoppie (endo in my day) and having that thing pop open and scare the shizzle out of them and cause them to wreck and break an arm. I liked Coach Paterno's suggestion that we get rid of facemasks in football to reduce the helmet-lead injuries. If you're worried about smashing your face, your' not going to lead with your head so much. helmets are fine and protective gear is great, but they also assist in being overly aggressive and fearlessness when it comes to dangerous activity. There's no thought or concern of injury anymore because of all the gear. Perfect example; The president of our company has two brothers that also work here. One of them was involved in a horrific motorcycle accident (no helmet). He was screwing around and nearly killed himself a couple of years ago. He wrecked testing a g-force app on his iphone. He was in an unpopulated area in Edmond and laid on the ground all night long. Luckily, it was a warm and dry night or he'd have died. He was in a coma for a couple of months, spent nearly a year doing rehab and had multiple surgeries to correct the vision problems from the head injury. So, the boss decided that motorcycles were bad and sold all of his. Fast-forward two years; the boss's son gets a dirt bike. The boss decides he'll get one too so they can go trail riding together. He buys every piece of motocross protective gear he can get. His mom finds out and goes ballistic. His response to her was, "Mom, I've got everything I need. There's no way I can get hurt." Famous last words. He went out for his first ride in a couple of years. Fell awkwardly and broke five ribs on his right side (chest and spine protectors don't cover the sides). He, then, had a reaction to pain meds and began vomiting and broke a sixth rib. He's back to work part-time after three weeks of convalescing. But there was no way he could get hurt.
