9-foot-long alligator euthanized at Claremore Lake

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation confirmed that a 9-foot-6-inch male American alligator was found and euthanized at Claremore Lake. After receiving reports from the public, the department went to check an area of the lake where it was sighted and found the animal.

Years ago a game warden friend was out doing fish counts with a biologist. He said that all day long people would sidle up to them and ask what they were doing. After the first couple he started telling everyone that they were releasing cold water alligators to thin out the beaver. They hadn’t anymore gotten the boat on the trailer when his phone nearly exploded in his pocket. It was the commissioner wanting to know WTF a cold water alligator was. Said his office was under siege for releasing alligators and he had no idea what the hell anyone was talking about. Word travels fast on the redneck radiograph.

No, this was done in the interest of public safety. I'm sure lots of discussion was involved before killing it.
