Ammo Can Storage shelf: finish?

I made a wood shelf system for ammo cans...will fit 4x 50cal cans or 6x 30 cal cans on each shelf.
Currently its unfinished...

Paint it? Black, OD Green...something else?
Stain it? Dark stain or maybe a army green type stain?

I'm open to suggestions. Its not "furniture grade" by any means, but it can still look decent. Made from 2x12's...sides dado'd to accept the shelves and 5 shelves total.

I saw one where they used a torch on tje dark grain, then stained it...looked pretty good. Sounds like yall agree.

I made a work bench out of plywood and 2x4s. I painted it black. On the benchtop I used bed liner paint, put it on thick. It looks pretty gnarly and it holds up well to abuse. It does show dust though. I like the idea of a stain and burn as well.
