Got to brag about my brother from another mother Mark. He was recognized this week for an event that occurred last August.
OKC police officer saves child from drowning in swimming pool
An Oklahoma City police officer saved a toddler from drowning after the toddler fell into a swimming pool. The body camera video captured everything. The officer is ultimately the reason the child is alive. He was first to the scene and performed CPR on the toddler before paramedics arrived. Mark Solano’s body camera video showed the intense moments before finding a young child fighting for his life. Once inside, he knows he’s running against the clock when the kid gasped. Minutes felt like hours as the officer administered chest compressions. He radioed paramedics. Police said the toddler was no more than 4 years old and the result was one everyone had been hoping for. The child was taken to the hospital after paramedics reached the home, but those crucial minutes were said to be the difference between life and death. OKC police said not all heroes wear capes. “Heroic. When you can hear someone in trouble and you can get there and initiate lifesaving intervention, that’s really special,” Quirk said. Police told KOCO 5 that the toddler is awaiting recovery and basic life-saving measures are part of routine police training.
Too often all we ever hear about from the news are the negative events from the few bad apples, it is refreshing to see something good for a change.
Chief Gourley presents an award at the Back the Badge event held at Higher Plain Baptist Church on March 26th to Sgt. Mark Solano (Springlake Division) who was recognized for his efforts rescuing a toddler who nearly drowned.
This is just one of the many people saved over the last 30 plus years.
Bravo Zulu big brother!
