While I will defend the mall scenario (while it would be a nightmare to clear after a crime like this - it would also be a nightmare for the criminal going through killing people if even one of them was armed - lots of places to hide and shoot back defensively against a crazed gunman out in the open), I have to say that the Colorado movie killings were one of those scenarios that makes me think that even if I had my CCL with me, I don't know that I could have stopped the bad guy. He had body armor, was in the dark with a light and had a rifle. He had every advantage and as a person who has practiced even at night in dark circumstances (and carries a flashlight with me everywhere I go), I can't say for certain that one adult with a CCL could have stopped that idiot. I wouldn't bet on the guy who was watching a movie with his friends/family in plain clothes with an IWB holster and compact handgun... that got blind-sided with a well-equipped attacker with a plan, better guns for the situation, and the element of surprise. This latest situation... Bad stuff all around - sucks for everyone involved.
