That can look at an axle bearing assembly from my Sears belt / disk sander?

It was making a terrible noise like bearings giving out but after disassembly I can't tell.

There is absolutely no play on the axle and the axle spins ok and takes a few seconds to stop.

The bearings are sealed bearings so I cannot lube them.

Check the motor bearings, and there should be more than just that one roller. Got a picture of the complete unit you can post?

Could it be a piece of trash clattering around between the disc part and its housing? Is the belt and sanding disc pad in good shape?

There is a small bit of end to end play on the motor shaft approximately 1/64th inch and no side by side play I can see or feel. Yes this is with the belt off so no tension on the shaft.
