I would recommend Paseo. Safe all round community and if she's a bit of a hipster, she would feel at home there. The thing you have to remember in OKC is that there isn't really an "area" that is safe. It changes every block. One block is safe and next block over is the ghetto. Rarely does anything ever spill over to the next block. Edgemere Park is the neighborhood just north of Paseo and it has a beautiful park area and has roaming security. I live in Edgemere and if it wasn't for this area, I probably would still be living in Norman. No apartments here in Edgemere, however. Actually, now that I think of it... a friend of mine has a small renovated 800 sq ft house just on the border of Edgemere park and Jefferson park for rent. It's just east of the Red Rooster Bar. Might be perfect for her. Has alarm/security system and I also believe it's on the edge of where Edgemere security also patrols. South and east of Paseo is Jefferson park and is a nice affordable area with quadplexes and duplexes for single adults. They have a couple of parks and a tennis court area. I would recommend the apartments in Paseo or the quadplexes in Paseo or Jefferson Park areas. Crown Heights is another more affluent area and mainly for families, but north on western is some more affordable housing. She'll also be next to all the hip bars and restaurants along western ave. I'll skip Heritage Hills since those houses are probably waay out of her price range, but just west is Mesta Park, which is another mix of historic and nice housing with a lot of quad plexes, apartments, and duplexes for single adults. There's a group of young adults who play volleyball at the Mesta Park volleyball area every Sunday evening. Again, like most places in OKC one block in mesta Park can have million dollar homes and next block over is the ghetto. Next will have nice affordable housing that's in-between, ect. As a young single adult, the uptown area is awesome and perfect. The housing way out on hefner is ok if all you want is boring strip malls and chain restaurants and want cookie cutter suburbia. I absolutely hate Edmond so I have no comment about that. Norman is a great town and is probably one of the safest towns to live in Oklahoma. Yukon is fine if she wants more of a "rural" small town feeling city to live in. Personally not a fan of Yukon, but it has it's merits. The thing you also want to consider is that traffic on I-40 and I-235 is absolutely horrible during morning and evening rush traffic. Winter months can also be absolute hell. Driving from Edmond to OKC and back on I-235 can go from a 15 minute drive to over an hour long ordeal during rush traffic. One wreck, especially during the winter months and she can kiss 2 hours goodbye. I knew a girl who lived in Blanchard who couldn't take it after a year and came running screaming back to OKC. If she's the social type who likes going out, it's well worth it for her to live in OKC or Edmond.
