[QUOTE="ripnbst, post: 1630904, member: 16136"] "Former Philippines President Fidel Ramos, visiting Washington last week, indicated that the real issue would be U.S. readiness to deter China and support the rights of smaller nations." This part right here really pisses me off. OUR issue is to be ready to fight THEIR battle? What in Sam hell? Like we don't have our own problems, and the world is no doubt aware, they still expect us to come running at the drop of a hat. It's one thing for us to do it because its the right thing to do and other nations can't defend themselves, but for other nations' security plans to be "When they attack the US better be ready to get here quick" is maddening. It's as if they aren't even going to try and fight it themselves first and hope that we will help, it's like we're their first line of defense. Ugh, if I was in the service and sent over there for this kind of BS, I'd go MIA. This is a blatant abuse of our good heartedness as a nation and our clout as a military superpower. If we didn't get involved, think of all the revenue a war we only supply-chain assisted could generate. What's the point in getting involved anyhow? To keep China from becoming a greater power than the US? Little late to that party huh? China made a comment that if a conflict broke out there the US oil companies would flee the region due to the instability. I don't know about that. US Oil companies=US Government and if that is threatened, well here we come, which just to be clear, is BS. Some of the comments below are a little interesting.
