I have recently taken CLEET Phase I & II and am left unsure of a few things. My instructor told me one thing and did not back it up with anything in writing.

Question#1 Can you conceal a "secondary" gun while on duty as an armed Guard?

Question#2 When off duty and your open carry gun is NOT ON YOU, but your uniform is, can you conceal carry into public.

When I took my security license, back in 99, phase I and II was basic unarmed security guard, not armed. So make sure an dyou don't carry anything. I took phase (IV) Basic Firearm Training to be an armed guard with a revolver only! Then after that, I took another 12 hour course called Advanced shooting skills for Semi-Auto so I can carry my semi Sig. Phase (III) was for private security. The other questions should be answered by C.L.E.E.T. What I think though is that the two conflict with each other because you are concealing while wearing a companies uniform but I don't know for sure. You are not a cop so you don't need back up. You wont even use your duty weapon.

This doesn't answer your particular question but.....

I've noticed throughout Tulsa (city) that armed guards routinely carry their duty weapons openly without hassle from law enforcement.
I see them going in/out of various QTs all the time.
Now, personally I have no reservations at all about them doing so but I was under the impression that it was an unlawful action.
(unless something's changed more recently)

JP has a point that the armed guard is authorized to carry only when on the job but since "on the job" can vary from a fixed post assignment to roving patrol or alarm response so being in a QT, in uniform, with a sidearm is not necessarily contrary to the law or regulation.

Back to the OP:

Question#1 Can you conceal a "secondary" gun while on duty as an armed Guard?

Question#2 When off duty and your open carry gun is NOT ON YOU, but your uniform is, can you conceal carry into public.

Q1 is not addressed by the regulations beyond the requirement to be qualified with the BUG in a Phase IV class. For example, you may be required by your security guard company to use a revolver so you took the Phase IV qualification with a revolver. You could NOT, then, use a semi-auto for a BUG without another Phase IV qualification course for a semi-auto. On this question, you are more likely to run afoul of your employer's rules than CLEET.

Q2 I would have to ask what is the point of wearing the uniform when not on duty?

After work heading home and stopping to get gas, groceries, eat, etc. You are required by law to remove your weapon. My question was at the time of removal, can you conceal carry with a Oklahoma CCL.

Just get your SDA card and you should be fine.

Always remember to keep the local cops on YOUR side. Oh sure, you're gonna run across the occasional pompus jackass in a uniform, who's gonna bust your chops, but just overlook him/her and go on.

Hell, when I was working security for Dirtybird Casino, we had a meeting at 9am. I had just got off at 7am and didn't wanna drive home and then back, so I went to the Norman Wal-Mart to pick up a few items until the meeting started. I was still in uniform and armed while shopping. I was approached by a "manager" (he looked barely out of high school) and he asked me if I was a cop (which according to CLEET I was - just not commisioned by an agency currently) or "just" a security guard. Being the smartass that I am, I said, "as a matter of fact, yes, I'm a security OFFICER - I'm not 'guarding' anything."

He then asked me where I work. I told him. He then said, "well then...uh...you would be out of your jurisdiction then, right?" I told him he was right. He then asked me if I had a legal right to be armed in HIS store. I told him, "oh...probably not." He looked at the items in my hand and advised me to proceed directly to the checkout and immediately leave the store.

I went to the checkout (with him following me) and paid for my items. He told me, "sorry...just doing my job."

I left and said, "no worries...go :censored: yourself." ;)
