they could, but honestly a lot of systems are incredibly outdated. ftf transactions are at the end of day relatively difficult to track en masse. i mean....we're here, right?

meanwhile, literally stating "i disagree with this because i have it!" seems like a bad idea to me.

the difference being, in your instance, they at least have to put in the man hours and effort to track someone down. even a transaction from a brick and mortar if paid in cash could be difficult to trace. if you met someone from a local ad, even harder.

you also might be surprised at the lack of information, or rather, being a single blade of grass amongst the yard.

in my case, you are handing them the information they are looking for. that's at least my point. and weeds get plucked.

Stating you disagree because you already own one wouldn’t accomplish anything anyway when they have already addressed the knowledge of that case and how they plan to address it.

I know it seems both futile and shouldn’t be a thing to begin with, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is happening. The best option right now is to use the pathways available to share our logic based opinions and lean on our representatives to fight for us anywhere they can.

I spend a meaningful amount of time every year reading and drafting comments on behalf of my company for new BLM (Bureau of Land Management, not the other one) regulations. Well thought out comments do get recognized as I follow through the commenting and proposal phases of this stuff. Looks like I will have something to occupy my downtime for the next few weeks.

If anyone is serious about submitting comments, I will share the approach I use. I typically read it in hard copy form and pencil in thoughts that come to mind as I read through it. Highlighting sections that trigger a thought of vagueness or conflicting with standing regulations also helps. From there I will research my notes and add depth to them in a Word document with plenty of references to support my suggested amendments. Once I have gone through it a couple of times, I will then start a second Word document to organize my thoughts and review my choice of words to start getting the initial draft of my response. Once that is done, I try to let it sit and not think about it for a few days then proofread one more time and make notes and adjustments to prep the final draft for submission.

It is a TON of work, but luckily this one doesnt require the legwork of forecasting cost to the company and new floors for production before shutting in a well due to additional regulatory expenses.
Good for you and your method of taking public comment.
Off topic, but not all in the .gov do the same. According to a FOI that came out yesterday I think, the Teachers Union owns the CDC.
The teachers union sent a letter as part of a public comment period stating it was unsafe for teachers to be in the classroom with students because of covid transmission.
The CDC literally copied and pasted the teachers union email and it became policy for the CDC even though the science said otherwise.

I can’t disagree that there are some groups the government will listen to above others. The other reason I try to submit detailed and thoughtful comments is that they become part of the record, so to speak. This will be the first I’ve submitted comments to a .gov other than BLM, but the BLM ends up having a bit of back and forth before regulations get to their final form and become active.

It's time to stop being afraid of your government. Tell a lot of boat jokes do ya?

You sure sound scared about being on a "report" for "not being afraid." Given the state of technology, people are honestly delusional if they believe they are hiding anything. You literally just posted about this on social media? Do you understand the irony in that?

But if even if you were successful in hiding transactions or even firearms.... what do you think you are accomplishing by hiding your guns and remaining silent?

If ANYONE has watched the last few years play out politically, it should be obvious that being vocal works.
