I'll tell you.... my son has always had a VERY healthy respect for any firearm! I started when he was about 4, I think... showing him new firearms when I got them, letting him see them, explaining sincerely but not severely that they were NOT toys, and that he WOULD someday be able to learn and shoot with me. He has NEVER EVER EVER even THOUGHT about touching any firearm in my home. And just a few weeks ago, I was able to take him on his first outing to actually SHOOT a gun, and he had an AMAZING time! I told him several months in advance I was going to take him shooting, and that it was contingent upon his behavior in school and at home when we could do that. It made a BIG impact on him to look forward to it, and I was able to help keep him on the straight and narrow following the rules and being a better kid, just giving him something to look forward to! He is 7 now, and he does a great job. I am happy I have gotten him into shooting, it is helping teach him responsibility and helping him feel more grown-up and mature at the same time! And gives us something productive to do together! I LOVE it!
