I've always passed on battery lead for my casting purposes , but I have an aversion to unnecessary chemical exposureHas anyone processed old dead car batteries for lead?
Is it worth it?
I see its very nasty to deal with but I have quite a few batteries so just thinking out loud.
Paging Swamprat... LOL
this is my concern. Seems like too much risk for the amount of gain to be had.I've always passed on battery lead for my casting purposes , but I have an aversion to unnecessary chemical exposure

What makes me sad is that I used to get a lot of COWW alloy for free but with all the zinc, plastic and steel wheel weights these days its not nearly as common to be able to find COWW as it used to be.this is my concern. Seems like too much risk for the amount of gain to be had.
That is only part of the problem, you have to deal with the battery itself too after you get the lead out of it .. I just don't have an appetite for all those problemsWhat would you do with the used electrolyte?
Ive seen people neutralize it with baking soda paste. We used to apply a film to our arms when we worked in the aircraft battery rebuild department years ago. What would you do with the used electrolyte?
