Ruger SR9c gets my vote. Its not much bigger than the LC9 but has such a better trigger and the safety isn't so stiff on it. Its about the same size as a Glock 26, maybe a tad bigger. Its going to be my #1 carry gun for a long time coming.
I'm looking at the Diamondback 9 for BUG / pocket carry. Any experiences?

Glocks don't have a manual safety.
Glock 26 for me,don't want some useless manual safety and ,with a 3.5 connector,I love my Glock triggers.
I've shot and owned most of them.
Simple answer is there isn't a best.
I suspect you can see from this thread so far there are a lot of best.
Find one or two that fits you well.
Make sure it feels good in your grip.
Try to check and see if it's something you'll carry.
Spend some time shooting them and then decide which is best.
Your answer will be different than others.
For me it'll probably never be a Glock.

Why is there no love for the XD? That's what I'm looking to get whenever I can get a deal on one.
Those guys just haven't chimed in yet I suspect.
