We’re already taxed enough . Have you ever been on a bike path ? I’m assuming not because you would be aware that they are full of toddlers in strollers, parents wearing earbuds , old timers also wearing earbuds doodlebugging around and dogs on leashes. Kids on bikes weaving all over the place “Bike paths” are more hazardous to cyclists than the roads are in most cases. The DMV grants us permission to use the roads , and to use the full lane if need be unless otherwise marked. The reason you see cyclists using the travel lane even when there is a shoulder is because the shoulder is where all the glass, debris and crap that falls off cars is located, And most of us cyclists who’ve been doing this any length of time Have felt the pain Of getting smacked with a mirror or worse, When they tried to Scooch over as much as possible to be courteous
