Bitterroot Valley 300 grn HP 45LC Bear Load

Picked up two 20 round boxes of above ammo. Other info states XD X-treme Defence. Case head stamp has two "*" separated by a ~3/16" long arch. Not many bears in Okla. No pressure warnings, no velocity info. Not sure I want to try in my blackhawk but it probably would be OK. Internet search did not give me much info. Any one have experience or info on this ammo? Would probably be a light load for a 454 Casull gun.

Sounds like you need to buy a lever gun. I’ve bought ammo for guns I didn’t own...yet!

My next lever gun, I hope, is a 45-70. I would be willing to trade these 45 LC for 45-70 ammo or brass. I did pick up 45-70 dies this week.

Yessir --- Starline makes good stuff in my experience. Bitterroot is also generally good stuff from what I know. I've got some 375H&H they made at the moment. I keep wondering if I'll shoot it, but every time I go to I hear John Denver in the background. Weird.

My .45 Colt is a S&W. Never trusted heavy loads in that brand. If it were a Ruger Super Redhawk, we would be talking.

Don’t shoot anything remotely hot in a N-frame .45 Smith. But, it would be fine in a 460 X-Frame.

Exactly. I pretty much shoot mild loads knowing the limitations of that model.

I shot all kinds of mild to +P loads in my Ruger New model Blackhawk 45 Colt.
Never had any issues.
Funny thing is the 200 gr swc lee bullet was the most accurate and I tried 300XTP and 250 XTP and many other bullets.
