Bloomberg is a stark raving mad lib idiot demagogue/elitist. Who can trust a PD that has pretty much had a long history of corruption(maybe not quite as bad as Chicago and or New Orleans). Just what does Bloomberg want the National Guard troops to be armed with?

BTW - having grown up in NYC (1st 21 years) and having lived in numerous small cities and/or towns courtesy of the USAF (subsequent 24 years) , I feel quite confident in my belief that, while the NYPD has indeed had some spectacular corruption cases, corruption and abuse of power was at least as prevalent in small town America.

First, I'd want to see verification of the story and quote.

Second, my thought is that the National Guard is under the authority of the Governor, not the Mayor. If the Governor says go, I don't think that the Mayor can say no. Not sure on that, but....
