We've been putting out bird feed for about 3 years now. I really enjoy them and learned about birds I didn't even know existed. The first year we had so many cardinals that they would line up on the fence and wait their turn. Before I added squirrel buster feeders, we had squirrels so fat that they waddled. In 2020 we cleared a lot of trees in prep for our house building. I moved the feeders under some pear trees. Still have some cardinals, finches, blue Jays and my favorite woodpeckers, but not as many. I had also created a target rich environment because owls and hawks could be seen all around my property. Driving in late one night a Great Horned was sitting on top of my farm truck. Earlier this week, what I think was a Red Tail hawk was moving in on the feeders that was HUGE. Don't recall ever seeing a hawk that large. With less cover I don't seem to have the variety of birds I had before. In 2019 I had a Redwing Blackbird, bluebirds, painted bunting, and a few others that I had to look up.
