So because of this Pappy phenomenon have you tried to buy a bottle of Weller Special Reserve lately? They are both under the banner of Buffalo Trace Distillery. Somewhere along the line the consuming public decided it is a poor man's version of Pappy because it has the same mash bill. It has now become unobtainium. If you do an internet search for it on the secondary market, you will see prices for $100 or more for a bottle that used to sell for about $25. I have been a Scotch drinker for many years, but decided to try to get back into Bourbon drinking having not consumed any for 40 years or so. I remembered when I did drink it, I liked the Weller so I went a bought a bottle at some store. No big deal. Guess I just got lucky. When I went back for another, I was told they were out, and that everyone was out. I called Parkhill's, the biggest store in Tulsa. They said there was none to be had in the state. So this kicked my hoarder response into overdrive. I began a hard target search of every... The stores I called that did have some kept it hidden in the back room and would only sell one bottle at a time. I found another store that did have the 1.75l bottles on the shelf so I bought 2 of them. So far no one has been jacking up the price. When I find it, it's pretty much normal retail. Anyway I have managed to store up about 7 liters of the stuff so maybe by the time I consume all that, people will have come to their senses and realize it is nothing special and have moved on to the next craze. I'm actually reluctant to try any other Bourbons being afraid I will like it better then wonder what I am going to do with all this swill I have in the cabinet.
