For a while now, I have been thinking of adding a bolt action 22 to my safe...something like a Ruger American Rimfire or Savage MkII. But while surfing the interwebs the other night, I came across this rifle and bought it on a whim. It's a Zastava CZ99 made in Serbia. From what I have read, it seems this gun has been imported and sold by several companies over the years; Remington Model 5, Charles Daly Superior II and Zastava MP22.

I have to say, I'm quite pleased with the quality of the rifle and anxious to get it out to the range to how she performs. I definitely prefer the walnut stock to the RARs plastic stock. In fact, there doesn't appear to be anything made of plastic on the rifle at all, not even the mag release button. Some of the highlights are the deep, high polish blueing, the hooded front sight, heavy milled receiver and adjustable trigger (I was able to easily set mine to 2 lbs). Other than adding a Williams rear peep sight, this rifle will most likely stay stock. I've seen other add a WCRS-54 to the 11mm dovetail.

I'd like to hear from anyone out there that has any experience or tips with this rifle. I probably will be tuning the magazines in the near future as they are a little hard to load and catch the tip of the round as they load.

Here are some pics since everyone likes pics.

I bought my girlfriend one of those last Christmas. It shoots quite well, but, yes the mags do need a bit of work to make them feed correctly. She's been very happy with the rifle so far.

Might I ask,,,
Where did you buy it?,,,
And how much did you have to pay?

I'm looking for a graduation gift,,,
That's a slick looking rifle if I can afford it.

I saw those on jg's site. They are sweet little guns. The only experience I have with the Zastava rifles is one that a friend bought his son for deer hunting. It was marked CZ but Zastava on the other side. It was in 243 but looked almost just like yours and shot great.
btw, these are already showing up on GB in the 250-300 range .Aarond, these little guns go FAST when they have them. Get the emails sent to your phone and you won't miss em! As well as CDNN,Classic,PSA,Allens Armory, etc. Dang, thats why my phone is always making noise!
I've been looking for the Zastava mannlicher stocked gun in 7.62x39. Theres one on GB,check it out

Zastava's centerfire rifles are built on a Serbian copy of the FN commercial Mauser action, and they are quite well made. The little 7.62 x 39 bolt gun looks sweet.

Yeah, I say those Zastava M85's on J&G's site too. They look pretty nice, but I'm hoping to find a Finnish M39 as my next purchase.

K-var.com also has a bunch of these Zastava bolt action rifles in popular calibers, from 25-06 through 458 Win Mag. But they want $340+ for the 22lr rifles.

I did read that Zastava makes the 22lr in a mannlicher stock, but Century doesn't import those.

I believe the model 85 is the so-called "mini-Mauser", made in .223 and other small calibers. The bigger C.F. calibers are built on the model 70 action, which is copied from the commercial FN Mauser action of days gone by. And yeah, I've also heard that the fullstock MP-22 is unavailable here in the states.
