Before, during and after. I hate the Browning finish, they are real hard to duplicate.
I've heard its pretty hard to get off...did you find that to be true?
I'd love a less "gloss" finish on my 1886 but havent had the stones to try it.
Not necessarily "hard", just time consuming. I used 320 grit scotch gold on a double action 6" automotive sander and it comes off. The delicate balance is finding out what works versus getting too aggressive and removing too much wood.
