The ODW recommends burning 1/4 of a property each year in a 4 year rotation in February. By the time the eggs hatch, the burned area will be coming up with new growth and be open enough for the adults and chicks to feed easily. They will still have cover in the thick stuff. If you need to thin some trees, some recommend cutting the tree off just enough to make it fall over and leave it for cover. Can't remember the name they call that technique.</blockquote>
