While on the surface this sounds like a reasonable law, IMHO it could become a bottomless pit for lib dem gun hater/grabber abuse.

They gotta get a judge to sign off on it, right? Well, at least there's that.

The law was prompted by a 2014 mass shooting near the University of California, Santa Barbara, in which officers beforehand visited shooter Elliot Rodger's home after his parents raised alarms about his mental health - yet concluded he wasn't a risk and didn't search the apartment where he'd stashed guns, ammo and knives.

Not sure this would have helped anything anyway.

I think it is ridiculous. What if you have a neighbor that doesn't like you and hates guns and makes a bunch of crap up just to get you in trouble? The neighbor may even call the cops on the guy to try and make him look bad. I could easily see this being a very bad deal.

Crazy people should not have access to guns. Common sense. But this isn't the solution.
