I just read this article which states Senator Coburn is working with democrats on Universal Background checks. Please call his office and tell him and you do not support this scam. Mark my words, if they do pass this it will not be the end of it. Once they figure out the universal background checks will do nothing they will push for gun registration. Universal Background checks are not enforceable without a registry. As we all know registries do nothing. Canada recently repealed their long gun registry because it was a waste of resources that could have been used more efficiently elsewhere.

Also, if you want to quickly send your representatives an email; go to http://ruger.com/micros/advocacy/takeAction.html. They have a program where you enter your info and then it emails all of you representatives. I've done it twice. You may need to use Google Chrome or Fire Fox though, Internet Explorer didn't work.

The only way I would support this is if short barreled rifles and sound suppressors were taken out of the National Firearms Act.

Have a good day

I was told by a Senator that they listen more to hand written letters than to emails. Letters are given to them to read by their Sctys. where most emails are read by the secretarys and then the totals compiled for those for and those against. The Senator told me that he views a written letter like 200 emails. It just so happens that Sen. Coburn was the one that told me this. I set down last night and sent off my second hand written letter to him. I sure hope what he said is true. But of course when we talked he told me he was against any more kinds of background checks. I got the same information from a different source than was given here. If we get the smae info from 2 different sources then it must be true. We really need to get on the stick with this. Do you think it should be written about in General info since more people probably read that than this forum?

I also heard the Rep.Conolly of Virginia believes that any American citizen can buy a Stinger missile so he wants to pass a law preventing thaty1 It seems as if the guy's in Washington need to learn the laws or at least to read more before saying such things. I can just see my wife now if I came home from a gun show with a Stinger telling me, "You can't keep that in the house"!

Phone call made to Coburn's office. I made it a point to let his staffer know my city and what I did for a living. "I oppose any form of expanded background checks for firearms transactions." - "Thank you sir. I'll let the Senator know. Have a good day etc."

Keep calling, I did... But I also realize Coburn will do as he pleases, for he isn't running for a third term... He's taking the ridiculously inflated gov package and coming home

I generally like the idea of term limits but this may be one of those situations where it works against the citizenry(Coburn is self term limited).

Once a politician is term limited or a lame duck he/she generally becomes unresponsive to voters wishes, even more than usual, and does what he pleases.

I thank you guys for calling. One thing to keep in mind is that hand written letters might take weeks to get to them due to previous anthrax threats. Sending them a hand written letter, an email and calling them are probably the best options. Having said that, I have not written them any letters, just used what Ruger has on their website.

I used the links provided by the letter I just received from NRA-ILA:

Dear Oklahoma NRA Member:

Chuck Schumer, Dianne Feinstein, and other anti-gun Senators are pushing a proposal that would dramatically expand the current instant background check system by criminalizing private firearm transfers. They are using the misleading label of “universal background checks” to create confusion in order to pass this legislation quickly through the U.S. Senate.

Don’t be fooled. Any system that criminalizes private firearms transfers – whether between a grandfather and granddaughter, father-in-law and son-in-law, or two law-abiding gun owners who have known each other for years – is a direct infringement on your Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Further, criminals will never submit to such a system so it will have no effect on crime – and the only way to enforce “universal background checks” is to create a national registry of gun owners. Please email, write, AND call your U.S. Senators, Tom Coburn and Jim Inhofe, and ask them to OPPOSE this gun control scheme in addition to any bill that would reinstate a failed ban on semi-automatic rifles or magazines.
