I always ask for an out the door deal. Learned a long time ago...someone has to pay the tax, but not necessarily the buyer. Used gun gives the dealer wiggle room to make a good opportunity for seller and buyer.

The first thing the Vendor is handed by the promotor is a Oklahoma Sales tax sheet. Then after the show is over, The State of Oklahoma Sales tax Commission sends you a letter requesting the sales tax for every sale you made at that show. The vendor is required to keep books on every sale, and collect tax on every sale then turn that money into the state. Many of us that are FFL's and own stores do that every month. If we do not, we loose our sales tax permitt.

Now that being said, you will find people in every walk of life that do not folllow the rules and get away with it. We all know them, they range from the top to the bottom. Money is passed under the table every day in life we also all know that. But for me, life is too short, I play by the rules. I do not live in the fast lane, I do not like looking over my sholder.

Yes, I charge sales tax. At the fair grounds it is 8.375% (I will have to look on the sheet, but I think that is what is was, Im not by it now)
In Moore it is 8.25%

I have made it very simple, I have a program, it is in my computer, when I ring up a purchase, and it is at the fairgrounds it charges that tax, when it is in Moore, it charges that tax, etc.

Like I said life is to short enjoy it.

I do want to say I did get a very nice pair of ear plugs made today by EAR inc.com. Great guy. I highly recommend him.

Nighthawk, not splitting hairs, ok I am, but I believe you only collect sales tax. The state and municipalities set the rate and collect, you are simply the middle man.
What I can't figure out is why don't many gun dealers do the 'out the door' anymore? Just get your total and back the dollars and put that toasted the tax if you want to be on the up and up.

A good deal at a gun show is as rare as a hen's tooth, so in a word, no.

Sales tax, schmales tax - all that matters is the grand total, whether the seller "pays" the sales tax for you, or charges it to you, but gives you a lower price to start with. Smoke and mirrors - just look at the grand total.
